About Team Cure Cholangio

YOU can help us make a difference.

A study in JAMA predicts that liver cancer and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (aka Bile Duct Cancer) will be the third leading cause of cancer death by 2040, surpassing colorectal cancer.  Once a cancer of mostly men over 65 it is now seen in MUCH younger men and women, with the average age of diagnosis of 44 and even a young child was diagnosed at age 9!   Cholangiocarcinoma also known as CCA is a rare, aggressive, lethal cancer that is difficult to diagnose, can take up to a year to be diagnosed, often diagnosed at a later stage, has limited treatment options, patients have to often travel long distances to see a cholangiocarcinoma expert, and cholangiocarcinoma has a poor life expectancy.  With drugs often taking 10+ years to get to market even with accelerated approval ....THIS. IS. A. CRISIS!  The time is NOW for research and ALL proceeds we raise are earmarked for research only.  With the help of our generous donors and volunteers, we have been able to fund quite a few research fellowship grants.

We have held yearly 5k's for 5 years, yearly guest bartender events, hold a fundraiser in partnership with Kendra Scott, post billboards to raise awareness, do interviews on radio and TV, and have tell our stories about our journeys with cholangiocarcinoma in print to raise awareness and hope for those newly diagnosed.

Our founder and Chair Jan's incredible Mom was stolen by cholangiocarcinoma in 2011.  At that time she was told she had no risk of getting cholangiocarcinoma as it was not genetic, however in 2018, she too, was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma.  After having 5 x 7" of her liver removed at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC and 6 months of Chemotherapy, she and her husband decided they wanted to try to make a difference and started raising awareness and much needed research money for this underfunded rare cancer.  Jan is currently NED, no evidence of disease.

Our Vice Chair, Jaye Pedante is another cholangiocarcinoma warrior.  A retired School Counselor and District Manager, Jaye was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma in 2022.  Jaye underwent chemotherapy and Y90 and Jaye's cholangiocarcinoma is now considered "stable".

Our Secretary, Morgan Oberholtzer was diagnosed with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma at the age of 27.  She underwent 2 liver resections and chemotherapy and is now 30 years old and is currently considered NED. (no evidence of disease)

Our Treasurer, Dean Meyer helped Jan & her brother and wife care for her Mom during her cholangiocarcinoma battle and has been Jan's caregiver during her journey with cholangiocarcinoma.

In 2022 Jan was honored to receive the Mark R Clements Award for Excellence in Community Impact by the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation for her work raising awareness and research money.  Also 2022, Jan received a Governor's Outstanding Volunteer Service Award Recipient for her work to raise awareness right here in DE.

In 2025 Jaye was honored to receive a Point of Light Award for her volunteer work with Team Cure Cholangio.  This award is huge honor given to only one person every day.  To read more about Jaye and why she received this award please go to:  www.pointsoflight.org/awards/she-turned-a-rare-cancer-diagnosis-into-a-mission-to-serve/

Team Cure Cholangio is honored to be recognized by Greatnonprofits.org as a Great Non-Profit for 2023, 2024 and 2025.  You can read reviews about us there.

Please help us raise money in hopes of a cure for cholangiocarcinoma.  We are so thankful for your past support.  We could not have done it without you and hoping you will consider donating to our DoMore24DE 2026 campaign.  We are so close to being able to fund another research fellowship grant.

Thank you ever so much for your consideration.
