The mission of City Theater Company is to create a body of work for the stage that is consistently high-quality, provocative and new; a body of work that takes risks and breaks barriers in order to engage new theater audiences in an exciting exchange of ideas, images and energies.
We're in our 31st season as Delaware's "Off Broadway"! CTC produces the kind of theater we want the entire world to experience. From re-envisioning classic musicals like Gypsy and Company; to staging intimate interpretations of newer shows like Spring Awakening, Passing Strange, and Once; to developing original works of regional playwrights and presenting World Premieres like David Robson's After Birth of a Nation and Blues in My Soul and Richard Gaw's Rehoboth; and engaging our community of art lovers of every age through Fearless Improv classes and shows — CTC's aim has always been to innovate and challenge ideas of what art (and theatre) is and what it can be.
We're thrilled to continue our FOURTH year of partnership as Theater-in-Residence at The Delaware Contemporary, near the waterfront in Wilmington. We've worked with the TDC staff to transform their former auditorium into our new home — The Black Box — which is available for use by all of our arts & culture community!
The "melding" of contemporary art and contemporary theatre was a no-brainer for us. We look forward to expanding the idea of what "art" means and where it can go when two like-minded organizations come together to collaborate and create!
Come visit us in our new home soon! And please consider support for CTC and help shape the notion of what art is and what it can be for our community!
About City Theater Company
Mission: The mission of City Theater Company is to create a body of work for the stage that is consistently high-quality, provocative and new; a body of work that takes risks and breaks barriers in order to engage new theater audiences in an exciting exchange of ideas, images and energies.
City Theater Company is committed to ridding the planet of complacency, redundancy, indifference and fear — therefore clearing the way for fun, electricity, cool art, and some major chutzpah. We seek out what makes us most afraid and then attack it with an odd, supernatural fury. We breathe in and out in time with our audience, and the resulting electrical charge produces theatrical shock waves that demand attention. The folks here believe that theater should be filled with big energy, big ideas, big fun, and other big stuff we haven’t even thought of yet.
