Pieces of a Dream
Organization Mission:
Pieces of a Dream, Inc. is a Delaware-based modern dance company dedicated to the development of artists and the presentation of original, non-traditional works. We explore contemporary societal issues through the medium of dance to engage the community and provide opportunities for discussion and education. We support the holistic well-being of our artists by fostering creativity as well as education in pertinent life issues such as financial literacy, collaboration and healthy relationships.
Dance is magical. Dance has the capacity to make us see, feel, and understand beyond our current world and our present circumstances. Dance is the physical embodiment of our deepest beliefs and our greatest aspirations.
Dance Transforms.
Dance is more than movement. Engaging in the study of dance supports healthy brain development for participants across the age spectrum. The structure of dance training encourages individuals to work collaboratively in groups, practice perseverance, and strive towards personal and common goals. The students at Pieces of a Dream, Inc. Academy of Dance and our three school-based Dance2Dream programs are able to enjoy these intrinsic benefits while simultaneously embracing their moving selves.
Your donation of $50 helps us to continue to share the joy of dance.
Dance Transports.
Dance helps us make connections with the world. This year several POAD faculty members and students participated in a groundbreaking new production about the life and work of Frances Ellen Watkins Harper created by Dr. Lynnette Overby. In addition to performing regionally from Philadelphia to Harrisburg to Baltimore, several dancers including Academy of Dance students Omari, Kennedy, and Alana were able to travel to Johannesburg, South Africa to share her story there. Later this year, POAD students will travel to participate in daCi USA's National Gathering in Towson, Maryland. Next year, these same students will take flight for the daCi International Gathering in Malaysia.
Your donation of $100 helps us continue to expand our horizons.
Dance Transcends.
Dance encourages us to take a stand. Pieces of a Dream, Inc. has always operated with an "artivist" stance. We believe that artists are uniquely poised to review and reflect what is happening in the world. As we celebrate America's Semiquincentennial, Pieces of a Dream, Inc. is honored to share in telling the story of our national history. Our Executive & Artistic Director Ashley SK Davis is creating a NEW full-length dance production about Delaware's essential role in ending segregation throughout the country. Commissioned by the Wilmington Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs, Brown, Belton, and Bulah: Leading the Way for School Desegregation will premier in fall 2026.
Your donation of $150 helps support dance as a vehicle for activism, artivism, and truth-telling.
(Donors who contribute at the level of $150 or more are invited to join a company rehearsal to view the work in progress.)
Pieces of a Dream, Inc. believes that dance is an essential vehicle for joy, self-expression, and physical and mental health. Our company members, students, and faculty are active participants in the world outside the studio and beyond the stage. Whether you encounter a pop-up performance at a park or witness our work with public-serving organizations throughout the region, our commitment to community remains.
