New Hope is a nationally-recognized program available to Delaware Hospice families and those in the community, who have experience the loss of a loved one. It is designed to help children ages 6-17 sort through the maze of emotions experienced before and after a loved one dies.
New Hope offers a variety of ways to support and educate individuals and their families. Children have benefited from an opportunity to interact with someone who has experienced a similar ordeal. Additionally, New Hope offers education and consultation with community groups, school and other agencies. Delaware Hospice is able to offer the New Hope program free of charge because of the generosity of the local community.
Camp New Hope is an annual summer day camp that's a unique component to the program. The camp gives children the opportunity to connect with others their own age who have also experienced a loss. The environment is safe and fun, with age appropriate activities and experiences. Through group projects and counseling, individual support, education and free time, children have the chance to work through their grief and loss with their peers. There is a memorial Service at the end of camp to celebrate and honor the life of each child's loved one.
