DOEC in collaboration with the Community Education Building is focused on increasing awareness about the disparities girls face when they don’t have access to necessary menstrual hygiene supplies. In addition to having access to menstrual hygiene supplies, this partnership will educate girls (students of the CEB) about period poverty, which is a systematic issue that often causes girls to miss school, appointments and other activities as a result of not having the necessary supplies to manage their menstrual cycle monthly. It is imperative that we take a stand and provide girls, who are already battling the effects of puberty, with equitable access to services, thereby decreasing the stigma that often comes with this critical part of a girl’s life.

The establishment of this partnership will provide a holistic approach to the seriousness of equitable period services. The impact will be far reaching, especially since many of the girls often help other family members with getting supplies for their monthly menstrual cycles as well. This is not simply a girl issue, instead it is an opportunity for outreach and an effort to increase community services and educational efficiency around the dynamic of proper menstrual hygiene care.
