Delaware Guidance Services (DGS) is Delaware’s largest provider of non-residential mental health services for children and families.

Providing evidenced-based programs and the highest-quality clinical services for over 60 years, we work to keep kids out of the hospital, we keep them from hurting themselves and each other and we strengthen their individual resiliency, enabling them to grow and thrive despite the obstacles in their lives.

DGS’ mission is to “provide quality therapeutic services to children, youth, and their families to increase their social, emotional, and behavioral wellness” and its vision for Delaware is “resilient families nurturing children’s well-being.” DGS accomplishes its mission using a strength and family-based approach that seeks to understand and address the effects of trauma by building resiliency and intervening at the individual, the family and the community level. DGS delivers services in the setting that best meets each client’s needs including in the office, home, school or other community setting.

About Delaware Guidance Services (DGS)

Mission: DGS’ mission is to provide quality therapeutic services to children, youth, and their families to increase their social, emotional, and behavioral wellness.

DGS’ behavioral health services include outpatient counseling, community-based trauma support, parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT), school-based counseling, therapeutic classrooms, and professional development training. Through DGS, children and families requiring a more intense therapy protocol have continuous access to Outpatient Therapeutic Support for Families (OP/TSF), Family-Based Treatment (FBT), and Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS).

The families we serve come from diverse backgrounds (57% Caucasian, 38% African American, and 5% Hispanic). Over 80% of children served by DGS receive Medicaid and approximately 90% of DGS clients have household incomes under $30,000.
