Bring Steam Locomotive #60 Home to Lewes Junction

Organization Mission:

The mission of The Lewes Junction Railroad & Bridge Association (LJR&BA) is to preserve, display and interpret the historical significance of the railroad to Lewes and Eastern Sussex County, Delaware, in an authentic and appealing setting for the education and enjoyment of the public.

Are you ready to make a difference? Every donation, no matter the size, adds up to BIG impact for the Lewes Junction Railroad and Bridge Association!

The railroads built our town. They brought soldiers to defend our shores, vacationers to discover our beaches, and commerce that fueled our fishing industry. Without the railroads, Lewes would not be the thriving community we cherish today.

Now we have a unique opportunity to honor that legacy by bringing home a piece of our history: Locomotive #60, the last remaining Pennsylvania Railroad B6SA style steam locomotive. This rare survivor is nearing completion of cosmetic restorations and it will be moved to Lewes Junction alongside other historic rail cars that tell the story of our town's Railroad Heritage.

We are almost there! Thanks to generous supporters like you, we've raised more than 80% of the $360,000 needed for this project. Now we need your help to cross the finish line. Funds will purchase necessary materials, cover skilled labor costs, and transport this piece of history to its permanent home in Lewes at the junction.

This isn't just about preserving a train. It's about creating a living museum to serve our community today. We welcome families for tours of our historic rail cars, where children delight in exploring the caboose and experience a tangible connection to the past. The addition of Locomotive #60 will complete this display and inspire even more young people to discover the remarkable history their hometown.

Will you help us bring PRR #60 Home to Lewes?

If you can simply Give $60 for #60 it will have an enormous impact! Your donation is tax deductible and will ensure that this important piece of Lewis history is preserved and displayed for our community and visitors to enjoy.

About Lewes Junction Railroad and Bridge Association, Inc.

Preserving Southern Delaware's Rich Railroad History
The historic preservation work of the LJR&BA has been recognized in proclamations of commendation by the State of Delaware.

LJR&BA has exciting plans for our interpretive display of railroad rolling stock on the preserved section of track right next door to the Lewes Public Library. Already in place is our Red Caboose (Cabin Car) that operated on the rail line during the last run of the Delaware Coastline Railroad in 2017. It is opened for tours and can be explored the first and third Sundays of every month. In addition, a sloped back tender was delivered in 2025. The tender will soon be accompanied by a unique steam locomotive (B6sa #60) – in fact the last of its kind - which is undergoing cosmetic restoration. We are seeking funds from those interested in preserving the history of our railroad heritage to help us restore the locomotive and move it to join the caboose and tender on the preserved track next to the library. When completed, the “Lewes Junction” site will be a prime location for activities and events to educate visitors and residents alike about the importance of the railroad to the history of Lewes and the region.
