Support The Ministry of Caring's Emmanuel Dining Room

Organization Mission:

The mission of The Ministry of Caring is, simply, to serve the needs of the poor with dignity, respect and love. We welcome the hungry for nutritious daily meals in our two dining rooms. We also provide emergency shelter for the homeless, job placement and assistance, high-quality childcare, and affordable housing for lower-income seniors. The Ruth Balick Distribution Center is a collection, storage and distribution point for donated food, clothing, furniture and household items that are given at no cost to anyone in need.  In July 2025, we celebrated the groundbreaking of our latest facility, Villa Maria, which will provide 74 additional units to those in need of safe, secure housing. Plans are in the process to create our fifth senior affordable housing program, Village of Francis & Clare, a 51-unit high rise. Our philosophy is that the poor should never be treated poorly.

Thank you for helping The Ministry of Caring further its mission to serve the poor with love, dignity, and respect through this year's Do More 24 Delaware campaign. Take a look at our 2025 Impact Report to see how your gifts enriched the lives of the vulnerable community members we assist in Wilmington.

While statewide food insecurity in Delaware sits at 12.6 %, the crisis is nearly three times more acute in the neighborhoods surrounding the Emmanual Dining Room (EDR), where food insecurity reaches a staggering 30%. According to ChristianaCare's 2022 Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), the zip codes we support are located in areas with approximately 35% poverty, well above the county average. In 2025, EDR served 183,741 meals to 142,704 men, women, and children at two locations. This was a 12% surge over the previous year, including a rise of 21% in the number of children served. There is never a fee and no questions are asked.

Rising food costs, high inflation, rising rents, along with reductions in government benefits for nutrition such as SNAP, have seen a rise in demand for food at both Emmanuel Dining Rooms. Last year, your generous support helped us help over 18,000 Delawareans.

Did you know...

  1. The Ministry’s five emergency shelter programs provided housing for 616 individuals and families in 2025.
  2. Our childcare programs enrolled 88 low-income children and provided 13,533 days of care.
  3. The Job Placement Center enrolled 235 low-income job seekers and graduated 22 new Certified Nursing Assistants, and 3 Commercial Drivers.
  4. 160 low-income seniors benefitted from safe, affordable housing in the Ministry’s three senior housing developments.
  5. Our fourth senior housing community, Villa Maria, is under construction and the fifth, Village of Francis & Clare is in the planning approval process.
Now, and to continue our important work, we ask for and greatly appreciate your help at any level and in any amount during the Do More 24 Campaign.

THANK YOU!
