This is the first year MAL has participated in this one-day, 24-hour amazing fundraising effort, so let's make it a great first effort! We have set our goal at $5,000 to support our mission of providing community-wide access to a quality visual arts program and we need your donations on March 4-5 from 6pm–6pm to reach, and maybe exceed our goal.
As a Delaware Division of the Arts grant recipient, we are also eligible for the small non-profit category stretch dollars of $200,000. This means the more we raise the more we are granted by DDoA! For example, if we receive 3% of the total donations raised by all eligible organizations in that category, then we receive 3% of the stretch pool. We are also eligible to win additional bonus incentives based on the number of donations received during the 24-hour period – the top 3 fundraisers receive a $10,000, $5,000, and $2,500 bonus grant. How great is that?!!
On top of that, we are also eligible for another $50,000 stretch pool, based on the same parameters as the 3% example above. And, there will be hourly giveaways during the 24-hour period. WOWSER that is a lot of dollars available for non-profits all over the state!
So we need your help from 6pm-6pm on March 4–March 5! We can do this together Delaware.
MAL offers about 80 classes a year in a wide variety of mediums such as pastels, pottery, jewelry, stained glass, acrylic, oil, watercolor, etc. Classes are offered to students starting at age 5 and up, from beginners to advanced artists. We are always on the lookout for new class ideas to offer the community!
We also work with a number of other organizations to offer classes at no or low cost to their members. Among those is the veterans Home of the Brave I and II; Kent-Sussex Industries (KSI), a not for profit vocational rehabilitation organization whose mission is to assist people with disabilities in the pursuit of their potential in employment and meaningful participation in their communities; and the Salvation Army Creative HeARTs Program for mentally-challenged adults.
MAL wants to continue offering these workshops, our extensive educational programs, and add more art opportunities so that we continue to meet the needs of our expanding community.
In order to continue supporting our mission and forward growth, reliable funding is imperative. While we do apply for and receive grants, we cannot rely on their dwindling resources to keep the lights on and the rent paid. As a financially responsible organization, we continue to brainstorm and produce fundraising strategies. To that end, we are having three major events this year – The 2021 Big Draw Festival DE, our annual 6 X 6 silent auction, and a 5K Run/Walk. We believe in the power of art to heal and uplift individuals and entire communities and so we are asking that you be a part of our organization, the Mispillion Art League.
