About Science Technology and Research Institute of Delaware (PFAS Solutions)
Mission: To provide quality water testing, research, and information for a healthy society and environment.
STRIDE PFAS Solutions is a 501 (C) (3) committed to serving communities in Delaware by testing and studying contaminants called PFAS in drinking water. According to the EPA, exposure to PFAS may lead to a variety of health effects, including various cancers, elevated cholesterol, immune system suppression, and developmental and reproductive effects. You can read more about PFAS and health here (cdc.gov). PFAS have be found to cause health effects even at very low levels. This is why the EPA will soon require that our drinking water, which can be a major pathway of exposure, contains near zero levels of PFAS. Since startup, we have been testing for PFAS in drinking water sources for several communities in Delaware and guiding them with removing PFAS based on our research on PFAS filtration technologies.
While testing drinking water for PFAS is crucial, there is a lot more that we can do. We are getting questions about PFAS in cosmetics, food, and packaging from the public. People are anxious, believing that PFAS are pervasive in our food supplies. As scientists we want to find the facts, collect scientific data, and answer some of these questions. Your donation will support us to test some of these products and publish the data so that if PFAS are present, measures can be taken to avoid such items. Your support will directly contribute to funding this important research.
Your contribution will help us achieve our objectives below:
- Scrutinize the published data on PFAS in our daily products.
- Acquire small equipment.
- Do more and new PFAS testing: With your support, we'll develop methods to test some difficult-to-test products such as food packaging.
- Publish our data: The data we gather will be openly shared. This will not only inform Delawareans about PFAS levels in their food but also empower them to make informed choices for their health and well-being.
