About Science Technology and Research Institute of Delaware (PFAS Solutions)

STRIDE PFAS Solutions is a 501 (C) (3) committed to serving communities in Delaware by testing and studying contaminants called PFAS in drinking water. According to the EPA, exposure to PFAS may lead to a variety of health effects, including various cancers, elevated cholesterol, immune system suppression, and developmental and reproductive effects. You can read more about PFAS and health here (cdc.gov). PFAS have be found to cause health effects even at very low levels. This is why the EPA is requiring that our drinking water, which can be a major pathway of exposure, contains near zero levels of PFAS. Since startup, we have been testing for PFAS in drinking water sources for several communities in Delaware and guiding them with removing PFAS based on our research on PFAS filtration technologies. 
 
Underserved communities are often disproportionately affected by environmental contamination and that unfortunately remains true for PFAS. Testing for PFAS in drinking water can be extremely costly, often ranging from several hundred to over a thousand dollars per test. This high price greatly limits which homeowners can afford to have their water tested, leaving many unaware of the potential dangers in their own drinking water. To address this, we are raising funds to provide affordable PFAS testing to those that request testing in underserved communities and to purchase water filters in bulk for affected households.
