Introducing The Cell…

After winning a grant through the Student Innovation Fund (created by our new Strategic Plan), a team of students and faculty are transforming the office space between Mr. Michael Valenti’s room and Mrs. Jen Toner’s room into a Biology Makerspace.

Makerspaces provide a unique opportunity for students to utilize hands-on, personalized learning to develop science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and entrepreneurial skills. Students have the chance to use their creativity and tailored learning techniques to modify existing ideas or create new concepts, procedures, or goods. Within the spaces, teachers aim to create stronger connections with classroom content. Makerspaces provide students of all academic backgrounds with the resources to turn their ideas into realities. Equitable access to learning is showcased since every student has access to the same physical and digital equipment to create new projects.

Within the lab, look for dedicated
  • biochemistry space (with a whiteboard wall, new biochemistry equipment, and biochemistry kits),
  • ecology space (with aquaponics and a terrarium ecosystem), and
  • bioengineering space (with Arduino microprocessors).

This renovation will be completed over the summer. Thank you in advance for investing in our students.
