St. John AM Cemetery Restoration

Organization Mission:

“A faithful body of believers committed to loving and serving God, His people and the community by the power of the Holy Spirit and the teachings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!” “Jesus said to him, you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Mt. 22:37-39 NKJV). “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (Jn. 13:34-35 NKJV). “If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, the My servant will be also. “If anyone serves ME, him My Father will honor” (Jn 12:26 NKJV).

The money raised from this fundraiser will help cover the cost to replace the gates and fencing around our cemetery. In November 2021, vandals spilled paint over our walkway, broke several areas of the fence, and spray painted graves dating back to 1848. We anticipate the cost for repairs to exceed $25,000. 
About St. John AM Church, Inc

St. John has a very rich history. The first written history places the first meeting of the church (St. John AUMP Church) in 1855, but oral history places the first meeting in 1848. The cabin was used as a church and school where female neighbors came to instruct the students free of charge. Unfortunately a fire in the early 20th century destroyed the original structure in 1866. Church members decided to erect a new edifice which was completed 1867, at a cost of $1,000.

Throughout new roads and the development of the University of Delaware, St. John remains a beacon of steadfast light declaring the goodness of Jesus Christ. We have come a very long way and was a congregation and as people since the early years of our beloved church. St. John has much to be proud of we have a small but beautiful church. We have accomplished many amazing ministries, and blessing from our heavenly Father. Our Church continues to be just as important in our community today as it was in 1848.
