The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Delaware Chapter is determined to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. Funds raised for the AFSP Delaware Chapter go to critical research, education programs, advocacy, and support for those affected by suicide. 

$1,000 would allow AFSP to bring at least 3 community programs to the Delaware Community.  Our programs cover the following topics such as, what is suicide how can we prevent it, research behind suicide, risk factors and warning signs, how to reach out for help, strategies for managing mental health and being proactive about self-care, and how to help someone in crisis. 

In 2019, we lost  47,511 Americans to suicide. 111 of them in Delaware. This makes suicide the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S..  In Delaware, we lost more than three times as many people to suicide than in alcohol related motor vehicle accidents. And for every suicide, we estimate at least 25 attempts. However, suicide is preventable. Our Chapter provides training programs like Talk Saves Lives, a community based presentation, that cover the general scope of suicide, the research on prevention, and what people can do to fight suicide. Attendees will learn the risk and warning signs of suicide, and how together, we can help prevent it.  We also provide resources for those impacted by a loss to suicide and show them that there is hope.
