$425 raised from 7 donors

$2,500 goal

The Bear-Glasgow Y has served and will continue to serve on the front lines in responding to the pandemic's health and economic impact in Delaware. Working closely with state agencies, we have been able to provide hundreds of essential workers with emergency childcare, distribute over 250,000 free meals to families in need, and serve thousands of school-aged children in camps, virtual learning centers and after school programs throughout the pandemic.

This year, more than any other, teen engagement is a critical community need and a top priority for our YMCA. The pandemic has been particularly destructive to teens as it impacts a stage when they need social connections and support to develop career goals. The transition from Middle to High School is a pivotal time for youth and the YMCA plays a pivotal role in developing the leaders of tomorrow.

2020 saw a dramatic rise in racial tension and the pandemic has only exacerbated racial inequalities throughout our country. The YMCA has been a leader in combating inequities and our teen programs provide critical support to minority teens across Delaware. Collectively, our programming prepares teens for their next step after high school, provides career pathways, promotes healthy lifestyles, and raises civic awareness.

About YMCA of Delaware

Mission: The YMCA of Delaware’s mission is to empower youth, foster healthy living, and promote strong communities. Our vision is a healthy, inclusive community where all people reach their full potential.

Established in 1889, the YMCA of Delaware serves more than 120,000 individuals annually at 7 full-facility locations, one urban youth development center, two outdoor recreation complexes, one overnight resident camp, and at over 40 statewide school partnership sites. We believe that we are stronger when our doors are open to all, allowing everyone the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

For over 130 years, our YMCA has worked to empower youth, foster healthy living and promote strong communities. Our work prevents chronic diseases like diabetes, combats educational equity by serving more than 30,000 young people, and enables all Delawareans access to life-changing programs. In 2023, we served 121,000 youth and adults across the state and provided over $4.2 million in financial support to ensure everyone had access to critical YMCA services.
