Nonprofit Participation

How can Delaware nonprofits participate?
If you are a 501(c)(3) public charity that is sub classified as 509a1, 509a2, or 509a3 (Type 1, Type 2, or Type 3 Functionally Integrated supporting organization or under section 170), you are eligible to apply to participate. Additionally, if you are a donor advised fund or have a fiscal agent with an eligible Delaware nonprofit (e.g., your organization has a fund with Delaware Community Foundation), you are also eligible. Your organization's status will be verified by our team prior to approval to participate. Verification includes confirmation of your organization's tax exempt status (e.g., submitting a copy of your IRS c(3) letter or other proof of exemption) and that you have filed an IRS Form 990 in compliance with the IRS requirements (e.g., submitting a copy of your most recent Form 990, which is dated within the past two years).

There are no restrictions based on organizational size or location of its headquarters other than your organization must serve or have a program that serves Delaware residents in Kent, New Castle, or Sussex Counties (or statewide). Participating organizations agree to actively participate in Do More 24 Delaware and abide by the guidelines of the program.

Is United Way of Delaware keeping any of the money donated to the participating nonprofits on Do More 24 Delaware?
No.

Are there fees associated with donations given on Do More 24 Delaware?
As with any credit card transaction, there are credit card and bank processing fees associated with the charge as well as other technology and processing costs related to the event to ensure its sustainability. The Delaware Gives platform charges the donors a fee of $1 plus 4% to cover these costs, which the donors have the option to pay at the point of transaction so that the nonprofit receives the full 100% of the donation. Donors will receive a tax deduction on the full donation amount, including any covered fees. If donors do not choose to cover the fee, the processing fee will be deducted from the donation before it is disbursed to the nonprofit, as is standard across most major fundraising platforms.

What support will our nonprofit be given for participating in Do More 24 Delaware?
Nonprofits will have access to our marketing toolkit which is designed to help our participating organizations maximize their resources leading up to and through the Do More 24 Delaware fundraising event. There will also be seminars (in person and online) that will train staff managing the event on the Delaware Gives platform, customizing their fundraising page, and using the social media and marketing toolkits. What kinds of prizes are awarded for organizations that participate on Do More 24 Delaware?
Every organization that raises $5 or more on Do More 24 Delaware will receive matching dollars on a proportionate basis from the stretch pool, thanks to Spur Impact and other community supporters. Your organization's portion of the "stretch" depends on how much is raised in total donations. For example, if your organization receives 3% of the total donations raised by all organizations participating on Do More 24 Delaware, then your organization will receive 3% of the stretch pool. The formula for the stretch pool is: (Individual Charity's Amount Raised / Total Amount Raised on Do More 24 Delaware) x Total Amount in Stretch Pool = Individual Charity's Share of Stretch Pool.

In addition to the stretch pool funds, there will be other cash and non-cash prizes awarded throughout the day, thanks to our many sponsors and supporting organizations.  For more information about the stretch and prize pool, visit our prizes page.

Can our nonprofit create its own prize or stretch pool?
The short answer is yes. We strongly encourage nonprofits to think creatively about ways they can encourage their own boards and supporters to incentivize others to donate. For example, if your nonprofits board collectively puts up a $5,000 matching prize for your own nonprofit, we can build that into your nonprofit's fundraising page in a way that can further motivate new or existing donors to give more. These organizational-specific prizes would be in addition to any other stretch pool or other prize money your organization may be eligible for or win. Please contact us ASAP if this is something you are considering, and we will work with you to determine the best way to build that into your fundraising plan and page.

Does our nonprofit need to share our donor info to participate in Do More 24 Delaware?
No. But you should contact your donors and let them know that you are participating in Do More 24 Delaware and would like their support to help raise as much money as you can that day.

Will donations go directly to my organization the day of the event?
No. Donations received on Do More 24 Delaware will be processed by the Delaware Gives platform and ultimately will be granted back to your organization after stretch dollars and prize dollars (if any) are applied, and net of any transaction fees not paid by the donor. We expect to pay the nonprofits within 30 days after the event. This window of time enables donors to review statements so that any charge backs due to donor error in keying in information or amounts can be resolved.

Will my organization receive donor contact information?
Yes. Participating organizations will have access to their donor data through their administrative portal, which can be downloaded and imported into your organization's donor database. Donor information is NEVER given or sold to a third party.

Will donors receive a receipt at the time they make the online contribution?
Yes. Donors will receive an email tax acknowledgment from the Delaware Gives platform automatically as soon as the donation is made. The donor will see the "DoMore24" or "DM24DE" on their credit card statement. For added convenience, donors who give to multiple organizations at the same time will get a consolidated receipt!

Should my organization also send a tax acknowledgement letter?
No. The Delaware Gives platform will issue all donor acknowledgements for tax purposes and they will be issued to the donor via email immediately after the donation. We strongly recommend the participating organization issue a separate informal "thank you" as part of your donor cultivation strategy but will not need to (nor should) issue a formal tax receipt.

How easy is it for our nonprofit to sign up?
You can create a Delaware Gives account and a fundraising page in as simple as three clicks. Once logged into your administrative portal, you can customize your organization's general informational page as well as your organization's Do More 24 Delaware fundraising page.

What is the deadline for nonprofits to sign up to participate in Do More 24 Delaware this year?
The deadline for the March 4-5, 2021 event will be at 3 PM EST on Thursday, February 18, 2021. We strongly encourage nonprofits to set up their pages and become familiar with the platform and the marketing toolkit in advance of this deadline.

Donors are encouraged to find organizations that align with their passions and values. While the charitable status of every nonprofit that participates in Do More 24 Delaware is verified, there is no screening or selection (or non-selection) on the basis of their charitable purposes or their missions. Eligibility is based on providing services in Delaware and the organization's current status as a recognized Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity. Therefore, approval of an organization's participation does not constitute an endorsement of the organization or its mission by United Way of Delaware or any of its partners or the event's sponsors or other supporters. Each nonprofit page is customized by that nonprofit to provide the organization's mission, not detailed information on all of its programs. Donors should conduct additional research on the organization's mission and use of its funds.

What if I can't find my favorite nonprofit on the Do More 24 Delaware site?
While we encourage participation in Do More 24 Delaware, it is not required that nonprofits participate. Can I become a fundraiser for my favorite nonprofit?
Yes. Individuals and businesses may choose to create personal fundraising pages under an existing nonprofit fundraising page. You can pick your own fundraising goal for a chosen nonprofit and share your fundraising page URL to your friends and social networks. Donations raised through these pages pass to the chosen nonprofit and will be added to that nonprofit's total raised. There is no cost to create a personal fundraising page and many of the same marketing tools in the toolkits will be applicable to your fundraising efforts. You can also simply share the nonprofit's fundraising page URL.

Can I add a donate button on Facebook for my nonprofit as part of Do More 24 Delaware?
While we recommend promoting your favorite nonprofit across your social channels, we do not recommend "adding a donate button" or "creating a fundraiser" with Facebook for Do More 24 Delaware. Using the 'donate' button through Facebook will NOT link to your or your nonprofit's fundraiser page on the Do More 24 Delaware website and will not count towards your nonprofit's total fundraising goals. We cannot track donations made through Facebook and they do not count towards the Do More 24 Delaware campaign for prizes, incentives and matches.

Many companies that are participating in Do More 24 Delaware have some match or other incentive program for their employees to encourage community philanthropy.
