Activities strive to foster an appreciation for Wilmington’s diverse culture, history, and heritage; eliminate prejudice and discrimination through education of the public; combat community deterioration; promote the beautification and revitalization of Wilmington; and lessen neighborhood tension.

Cityfest's PASS IT ON! initiatives encourage positive values and inspire the next generations through creative engagement in various forms.

New in summer 2024, Arts Work Live Concert Stage Management is an 8-week paid workforce experience for youth 15-20 years old who aspire to provide support to creatives in the music and live entertainment industry. Program activities offer hands-on experience working with professional stage managers, audio/video technicians, artists, and arts administrators.

Arts Work Summer Youth Visual Arts Program is a 6-week summer program. This 4-year-old apprenticeship program is a summer job opportunity that cultivates artistic, personal, and entrepreneurial skills while creating salable artwork under the guidance of professional teaching artists. 

The Boysie Lowery Living Jazz Residency was launched in 2015 as a two-week program designed for aspiring jazz artists between 17 and 25 who are both composers and performers. The program offers a range of activities, including workshops, rehearsals, composing sessions, performance opportunities, and master classes that are conducted by some of the most prominent figures in the jazz industry. The residency concludes with participants' performances at the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival.

Cityfest was recognized as an exempt 501c3 organization by the IRS in 1986. While Cityfest projects primarily serve city residents, many people from the Greater Wilmington area and beyond visit Wilmington to enjoy Cityfest programming.
