Welcome to the Major Nathaniel Mitchell Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR). Our Georgetown chapter was organized on December 8, 1972. Our focus is patriotism, education, historic preservation, as well as community service. Community Support includes:
- Support Canine Assisting Service Heroes
- Education of children regarding the U S Constitution and George Washington
- Collection of items for Active Military and Veterans
- Participation in Wreaths Across America
- Presentation of certificates and medals to outstanding students and JROTC
- Donation of books to local libraries
- Mentoring and literacy
- Support historical sites
- Support local military and veterans organizations
- Memorial Day and Independence Day Celebrations
- Flag Day Ceremonies
- Provide scholarship opportunities
Our renowned Patriot, Major Nathaniel Mitchell, a hero in the Revolutionary War, and a Governor of the State of Delaware was born in Laurel, Delaware in 1753.
The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to:
- Promoting Patriotism
- Preserving American History
- Securing America’s future through better Education for Children
