The Newark Symphony Orchestra is primarily a volunteer orchestra!  While we do have a few paid union musicians, most of our members are giving freely of their time and talents. Our board consists of all volunteers as well. Our board generously gives of their own time and talents, drawing contributions from their diverse backgrounds. The NSO strives to offer Newark and the surrounding communities live, high-quality classical music. Whether it's symphony, chamber, or a family focused concert, our programming provides a range of powerful music that appeals to our audience's varied tastes.

Our organization is funded by the DDOA, City of Newark, private grants, " Friends of NSO", and our patrons

You can find NSO performing a minimum of eight concerts per year, including a concert especially for families and children. Our collaborations with youth performing arts ensembles, local music & arts groups, and choruses keep us connected to the community and allow us to provide you with more music!

Your donation to NSO goes beyond supporting live music through :

  • Hosting the annual Betsy L. Kent Youth Concerto Competition
  • Instruments In the Attic - Donated instruments are refurbished and granted to students in need
  • Instrument Petting Zoo - Musicians from the NSO represent all families of instruments in order to give students a chance to get hands on experience with the instruments
  • Small ensemble visits to schools, hospitals, other community organization

NSO Thanks you for supporting the arts!
