The Delaware Botanic Gardens continuously expand and focus on increasing its living plant collection to best educate and inspire the community. The Delaware Botanic Garden is committed to providing a botanic garden that represents sustainable habitats and environmental stewardship.
While the garden is expanding and development is underway, the cost of shipping plants from nurseries is increasing. In order to become more cost-effective, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly the Delaware Botanic Gardens is looking toward increasing its production through propagation. Plant propagation is the practice of growing new plants with seeds, cuttings, grafting, and layerings. The skilled horticultural staff at DBG has propagated numerous plants, trees, and shrubs in order to preserve and increase its collection in existing gardens. However, the facilities currently being used for this purpose are limited in capacity and technology for future expansion.
Your donation to the Delaware Botanic Garden’s Do More 24 campaign will help provide the facility and supplies that are necessary to increase our plant collection through propagation. These supplies include but are not limited to:
● Propagation facility (designated house for germination and specialized propagation)
● Irrigation (misters, capillary mats)
● Shade cloth
● Heating pads
● Grow lights
The Delaware Botanic Gardens aim to create horticultural displays that both educate and inspire by demonstrating best practices and sustainability. By helping the Delaware Botanic Garden expand its living plant collection through propagation, you are ensuring the longevity of the gardens and increasing the biodiversity of its collection.
Our staff, volunteers, business, and community partners have built a wonderful place to visit, commune with nature, and learn about coastal Delaware flora.
We invite you to help us grow our living plant collections of trees, shrubs, and native plants across the gardens, including many endangered and at-risk plants, and here's how you can help!
Start a DBG fundraiser to share with your friends and family, highlighting the importance of botanic gardens and plant collections, perhaps featuring your favorite plant types.
Donations received during #domore24de will help our horticulturalists source, propagate or buy locally sourced trees, shrubs, and plants that will give visitors a sense of a living, natural setting and provide the green touches that will bring the Garden to life.
