The Hispanic American Association of Delaware (HAAD) is an emerging 5019(c)3-nonprofit helping Spanish-speaking individuals and their families navigate and support new and better possibilities, yet providing a way to honor tradition. The center provides support for being the best version of themselves in the present moment, where life is. In preparation for the future, we support their goals and help to accelerate the journey to achieving them.
Taking an opportunity or resource to create new avenues to success in life is driven by their self-desire, a step up where doing it alone might not be possible. In this approach, it is evident their contribution in return is greater than what they received.
Who should donate to HAAD? Whether there are immigrants in your family tree or not, you already understand the sacrifice of leaving a home country, friends, and the comfort of what you know. Then the effort that was spent improving new prospects and sacrifices made for themselves or family. At HAAD we are the support to ensure that sacrifice matters in generations to come.
Our center is new after purchasing the property at 1801 Lancaster Ave. Wilmington, DE 19805. The building represents our commitment to be accessible to the needs and is located in the community. The mortgage is not supported by federal or state support. We were denied ARPA funds to acquire the center.
Yet, those sacrifices yield successful programming. An effective ESL program for all ages. In support of healthy living, we provide a place to exercise, nutrition health, and connect with healthcare resources. Our empowering groups are a lift-up to support those struggling with coping/ mental or emotional health, A leadership program for the youth, and we offer free family artistry workshops for families to attend together.
Along with an emergency food closet, we host a lawyer specializing in immigration to provide free consultations once a month.
By using standardized evidence-based screenings we see the affinity groups, and the community in which we offer do work. From this life goals are being met. We see people are losing weight, managing blood pressure, and diabetes, lowering stress, improving mental outlook, getting gainful employment, and improving their English. Please help us to do more.
Community is our prominent value. A surprise cake and impromptu birthday celebration at ESL class. An adult immigrant has no family in Delaware - Imagine what it meant. One Zumba class participant coached another in a job opportunity. In return; a dinner invitation to celebrate with her family.
Connection is a second value. Without connection, we could not do what we are doing now. Day-to-day lives are being changed, and we do that through our space where people feel important and valuable. Please connect with us.
Your contribution today is very important for us as it creates new possibilities for our emerging community organization. We also invite you to connect and visit with us. How else can you help?
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Our community organization was founded and led by first-generation bilingual immigrants and members of the community we serve.
