Having worked at the LACC for the past 7 years I have heard countless stories about the barriers community members faced upon moving to the US. It is more important now than ever before that we support our immigrant community in the face of rising anti-immigrant rhetoric and action. 

 This year, the Latin American Community Center (LACC) is raising funds to ensure that immigrant families in our community have the stability, safety, and support they need during these increasingly challenging times. Many individuals navigating the immigration system face complicated paperwork, language barriers, and a lack of access to trustworthy guidance. These obstacles can delay applications or jeopardize their legal standing. The LACC Family Immigration Services program provides support with immigration filings that do not require representation in court, such as assistance with naturalization and citizenship applications, family petitions, work permits, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), Temporary Protected Status (TPS), green card renewals, removal of conditions, consular processes, and fee waivers. Staff help clients gather and prepare documentation, complete required forms, and prepare for United States Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS) interviews. The program creates access to trusted, affordable, and bilingual support in navigating complex immigration processes in the U.S.

We are preparing for the urgent needs that arise when a family member is suddenly detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). These situations can instantly remove a household’s primary source of income, leaving families at risk of losing funds needed to cover expenses such as housing, utilities, and food. Donations during Do More 24 will allow the LACC to offer emergency financial assistance to stabilize families during unexpected hardship. We are also establishing a fund that can be used to assist with legal fees for individuals who have been wrongfully detained. This removes the financial barrier to receiving proper legal representation and the opportunity to challenge unjust actions. Together, we can develop our immigration fund to offer a lifeline that strengthens families, protects due process, and upholds the dignity of those striving to build a future in our community.
