This #DoMore24DE the Latin American Community Center (LACC) is raising funds to support the creation of an outdoor learning facility at our La Fiesta 3 Early Learning Center in New Castle.
At the end of 2025 the LACC purchased the building that houses our La Fiesta 3 Early Learning Center along with its 8 acre parcel of wooded land. Do More 24 Funds will be used to transform the wooded land into an innovative outdoor learning space. This project is designed to provide a dynamic and engaging environment for children.
The planned outdoor learning space will include a variety of interactive areas, including an outdoor classroom, trails for exploration, a soccer field, and a basketball court. These features will offer children ample opportunities for physical activity, teamwork, and creative play, fostering their social, emotional, and cognitive development. In addition, the space will include a 1,200 sq. ft building that will house a classroom, restrooms, and a storage room, providing added functionality to the space as well as creating a venue for additional learning and reflection.
The first children to be able to utilize the space will be preschool age children in New Castle. These children will have the opportunity to utilize the space multiple times a week, offering a unique setting for children to explore, learn, and grow in nature. In the morning, the LACC aims to have a half day forest preschool program, expanding the number of children served at the center and providing a unique experiential learning opportunity for children in New Castle. In the afternoon, children enrolled in traditional La Fiesta 3 programming would be able to use the space.
The LACC’s long-term vision for this project is to extend its impact to a broader age group through securing transportation for children ages 3 and 12 who attend programming at LACC's Wilmington Learning Centers to utilize the space and engage in outdoor learning. This will be especially impactful, as there are limited spaces for safe outdoor play in the neighborhoods where the children attending LACC programming in Wilmington reside.
This project represents a significant investment in the health, education, and well-being of our community's children. By providing a safe, fun, and educational outdoor environment, the LACC aims to inspire curiosity, creativity, and physical activity while fostering a love for learning. The space will also be a vital resource for families, offering a place for children to grow and develop in an inclusive and supportive environment.
