Kelly's fundraiser for LACC Life Empowerment Programs

A fundraiser for Latin American Community Center (LACC)

$225 raised from 6 donors

$1,000 goal

I’m Kelly Scanlan.

I’m fundraising for Latin American Community Center (LACC).

This year for Do More 24 the Latin American Community Center (LACC) is raising funds for our Life Empowerment programs. These include critical community supports such as our food closet, domestic violence program, breastfeeding peer counseling, workforce development, financial literacy, ESL classes, and so much more. While all of our life empowerment programs are incredibly important to the community we serve, two have a special place in my heart: the Los Abuelos Program and Financial Literacy

For Los Abuelos, I have had the privilege of teaching Zumba with our seniors since 2019 and they are some of my favorite memories of my time working at the LACC. We have had so much fun dancing together and its been great hearing what dance and physical activity means to them. For example, one of the participants would tell me stories about going out dancing in the plaza when she was younger growing up in Puerto Rico and how she loved when we would do Zumba because it would remind her of those times.

For Financial Literacy, I have seen first hand the impact of the program. Back in 2021 I made the decision to move back to Delaware. I knew it would be cheaper to buy a home than to rent but I had no idea if my savings were enough and where to begin with the process. The LACC financial literacy coach helped assess my home buying readiness, taught me where to begin and gave me guidance through the process, and was there to celebrate with me when my dream of being a homeowner became a reality. During my time at the LACC I have seen countless individuals benefit from this program. I am so glad this program exists to help others navigate financial systems and achieve their personal financial goals.

These are just two of the incredible programs your donations will support. Additionally, the first $5,000 of donations the LACC receives during Do More 24 will be matched dollar for dollar. This means your $25 donation would automatically become a $50 donation, doubling the impact on Delaware's Latino community.

Some ways your donation can make an impact are:
What your donation can do:
$25 can provide a bag of pantry staples to a family through our food closet
$50 provide diapers to a new mother in our Breastfeeding Peer Support Program
$100 can help cover immigration paperwork processing fees for an individual in our Family Immigration Services Program
$200 can support a field trip to provide social opportunities for seniors in our Los Abuelos Program
$500 can provide a wellness workshop for women in our Domestic Violence Program
$1,000 can sponsor the Prevention Promoters ArtAddiction event which encourages individuals to express their experiences related to addiction and recovery through art

Thank you so much for your support of the important work we are doing at the LACC
