For decades – almost 80 years - Kingswood Community Center has positively impacted lives in Riverside and all of Wilmington. Now, just one block from where Kingswood stands today, construction of a new, 80,000-square-foot facility has begun. This spectacular new building will serve three-fold the number of Wilmingtonians Kingswood serves today, with state-of-the-art programs and amenities. Most importantly, it sends a message to all - loud and clear - that Riverside is coming up, Riverside is a community worth major investment, and Riverside is a community where families come to thrive!

We are thrilled. But more importantly, residents – past and present - tell us THEY are thrilled:

“When the full story of Kingswood is told, there will be full credit to the people here, for their help to others, their acceptance of fellow men without racial bias… I’ve done so many things on this ground and it just feels like I’ve come home.” ~Theressa “Tessie” Webster Holmes

“This brings so much joy for me – for someone who said I will never come back, to now moving back and telling everybody you got to come because we’re going to do some beautiful things for people.” ~ Markevis Gideon

“As I stand here on this land of love, hope, and happiness… now let it do what it do!”  ~Nettie “Ms. Cookie” McCray

“For kids that grow up in this community and the opportunities they had from just this building, let alone the new building, I know it’s going to do wonders for the future.”  ~Deonta Martin

This community drives everything we do at Kingswood. Be a part of it! Make a contribution today!

About Kingswood Community Center

Mission: The mission of KCC is to assist residents of Northeast Wilmington and surrounding communities in achieving their potential for economic, social, and personal wellbeing and provide them with positive, reassuring programs that empower families. KCC is dedicated to youth and educational services, family, and senior support services.

Programming at Kingswood Community Center serves all ages, spanning “cradle to cane:”

·       Early Learning Academy (ELA) serves children ages one to five years, promoting developmental milestones using age-appropriate curricula.  The ultimate goal of the ELA is to ensure that children and families are kindergarten-ready upon completion of the program.  Kindergarten-readiness includes a child’s developmental domains (social-emotional, physical, language, cognitive, literacy, mathematics), an individualized transition plan, and family readiness for kindergarten (case management, assistance with the application process, access to supportive services, etc.).

·       School Age Programs provides academic support and enrichment for school age children (ages five through twelve). Programs include summer camp and before/after school programming.

·       EMPOWER Program promotes upward economic mobility for Riverside residents through a comprehensive and tailored system of supports, services and case management that buttresses families and individuals holistically.

·       Health and Medical Resources: In June 2021 KCC opened a new virtual health clinic in partnership with ChristianaCare. Staffed by ChristianaCare, the clinic provides primary care, health screenings, vaccinations and referrals. KCC also provides some funding and/or referrals for medical bill assistance.

·       Jimmy Jenkins Senior Center addresses the needs and interests of seniors in our community by providing them with support that focuses on maximizing independence. About 120 seniors attend programming regularly each year.

·       Community and Family Services are designed to provide support and information response through referrals to local services for those who find themselves in need.
