The Lewes Public Library is the heart of the Lewes community and reflects the vibrant and welcoming nature of its residents. We are the community's central resource for exploration, reflection, and learning, offering access to books and other circulating materials, classes, services, and programs, all of which are free of charge.

As an independent nonprofit library, the Lewes Public Library receives only half of its funding each year from government services. The other half must be raised by the library annually. That amount fluctuates between $300,000 - $400,000. Our generous donors are essential in meeting that fundraising goal and supporting the library's operations. Your gift will help us serve our community by providing access to information resources, cultural opportunities, and recreational activities for all age groups.

Community support is critical to our continued growth and vitality as a public resource. You can make a difference and help ensure a bright future for generations to come by making a gift to the Library.

The Lewes Public Library is an independent public library member of the Delaware Library Catalog, which consists of all the public libraries in New Castle, Kent and Sussex Counties. Our service area is a three-mile radius around Lewes, representing over 26,000 people. We are the busiest library in Sussex County, with almost 160,000 visitors last year. Over the past year we have seen a 40% increase in library visitors and a 24% increase in program attendance.

It is the goal of the Lewes Public Library to be an exemplary library in Delaware and a trusted civic, cultural, social and learning center. The Library is a welcoming, comfortable center for the exchange and creation of ideas, as well as the preferred place for cultural and social interaction in the community.  For more information, including listings of all our children, teen, and adult programs, go to our website at lewes.lib.de.us.

As an independent library, we must raise nearly half of our operating funds each year. As our community grows, demand for our services increase - and so do our expenses. When choosing where to give your charitable donations, please consider just how significant a gift to the library really is. Please give what you can . Your donation will go farther than you might imagine!
