Ministry of Caring's Emmanuel Dining Room DM24DE 2021

Organization Mission:

The mission of The Ministry of Caring is, simply, to serve the needs of the poor with dignity, respect and love. We welcome the hungry for nutritious daily meals in our two dining rooms. We also provide emergency shelter for the homeless, job placement and assistance, high-quality childcare, and affordable housing for lower-income seniors. The Ruth Balick Distribution Center is a collection, storage and distribution point for donated food, clothing, furniture and household items that are given at no cost to anyone in need.  In July 2025, we celebrated the groundbreaking of our latest facility, Villa Maria, which will provide 74 additional units to those in need of safe, secure housing. Plans are in the process to create our fifth senior affordable housing program, Village of Francis & Clare, a 51-unit high rise. Our philosophy is that the poor should never be treated poorly.

Take this opportunity to fight hunger in our community by supporting the ministry through Do More 24 Delaware. Continue the Ministry of Caring’s mission of serving the poor with love, dignity and respect by helping us feed the hungry at Emmanuel Dining Room (EDR). EDR serves hot, nutritious meals at three locations in greater Wilmington every day with no questions asked.

EDR is the biggest social service program run by us. In 2020, EDR served 151,437 meals to those in need, supported by generous and compassionate people like you. In response to COVID 19, the ministry rapidly implemented program changes designed to meet the needs of the poor. On March 20, 2020 the communal dining rooms were closed, and EDR shifted to takeout meals. Volunteers groups ceased in person participation, and the ministry had to provide food, staff and takeout containers for 550 meals per day. Even with these challenges, EDR has successfully served all who are hungry, every day.

To continue our important work, we are asking for your help.

What would $24 do for our organization?
We don’t serve green eggs with our ham, but ham is a staple of the morning Emmanuel Dining Room breakfast!  $24 supplies diced ham for one morning’s breakfast for 100 people.

What would $48 do for our organization?
Eggs are so nutritious they’re often referred to as “nature’s multivitamin.” $48 purchases a case of eggs and serves 100 people.  Help others start the day on a healthy note!

What would $124 do for our organization?
When our dining rooms temporarily closed due to COVID 19, we turned to takeout meals. $124 buys 600 biodegradable and recyclable takeout food containers for all three dining rooms.

What would $248 do for our organization?
Quiet one day’s hunger pangs for 81 of the men, women and children who visit Emmanuel Dining Room each day.  $248 buys a nutritious meal for 81 of the people who are served with kindness and respect and are asked no questions.  Your generous donation benefits our community and brings a feeling of goodwill.
