Our educational programs spread the word and raise awareness. Our policy initiatives bring about necessary change as this is a crisis relating to global climate change and social justice. Mission: In order to improve the health and welfare of animals, humans, our communities and our environment, we strive to eliminate the scourge of single-use plastic pollution and to foster a culture of zero waste in Delaware through education, awareness building events, and advocacy initiatives.
Founded in 2010, we are a community-based, statewide organization focused on making Delaware a better, cleaner, healthier, and safer place by reducing the use of single use plastic and encouraging zero waste practices. With the help of our tireless volunteers, we provide educational programs, film screenings, discussions, special events, and undertake advocacy for policy changes at the state level and in local governments throughout Delaware.
We led the successful initiative to ban single use plastic bags in Delaware in 2019 through House Bill 130, and in 2020 t0 ban balloon releases.
Plastic Free Delaware is the founder and co-leader behind YES!, Delaware Youth Environmental Summit for Delaware's high school students (www.DelawareYES.org).
