Read House Garden Restoration Project

A fundraiser for: Delaware Historical Society

Organization Mission:

The Delaware Historical Society is a nonprofit organization that preserves, promotes, and shares Delaware’s history to educate, inspire, and empower people and communities.

We are entering the final phase of the garden restoration project at the Read House & Gardens in Historic New Castle, where each gift is matched by a generous grant from the Longwood Foundation. 

This project includes

  • - Widening and re-grading pathways in the Read House Gardens to make them safe and accessible for guests with strollers and mobility aids;  

  • - Improving the irrigation and drainage systems to sustainably manage the gardens and mitigate urban runoff; and

  • - Integrating native plants and hardscaping to maintain the gardens' historical integrity while keeping them healthy for future generations to enjoy.
