This year, we are focusing our Do More 24 efforts on raising funds for the restoration and ongoing maintenance of our historic properties.
The Delaware Historical Society owns and operates nine historic buildings, including Old Town Hall, completed in 1798 and once the center of political and social life in Wilmington; our 1929 Art Deco style Research Library & Archives; the Delaware History Museum and Mitchell Center for African American Heritage, housed in a former Woolworth's store building on Market Street in Wilmington; four historic homes that were relocated to form Willingtown Square; and the National Historic Landmark George Read II House & Gardens in Old New Castle.
These historic spaces are vital and important parts of Delaware's story, but they require ongoing, historically appropriate, and often expensive maintenance to preserve them for future generations. Funds raised during Do More 24 2026 will go toward restoring and maintaining DHS' historic properties.
