The mission of the Seamen’s Center of Wilmington, Inc., is to meet the needs of the seafarers who visit the Ports in the State of Delaware. Our goal is to make their time in port a rewarding one by providing personal, practical and spiritual assistance. A warm welcome is extended to ease the pain of loneliness and isolation and to offer a respite from the hazards of the sea.
SCW (Seamen's Center of Wilmington) is excited to be participating in Delaware's Day of Giving:
Did you know that seafarers are responsible for delivering 90% of the products we use every day? Unfortunately, many of these dedicated individuals face challenging circumstances. For instance, the average able bodied Filipino seafarer starts out making less than $10.00 an hour, spends 6-9 months away from home, endures the hazards of the sea, and battles loneliness.
That's where SCW comes in. Not only do we provide a warm and welcoming Center, where they can take time out from their duties to play pool, call their families on our free wi-fi or just have have a chat to our dedicated volunteers; we also serve as a vital link between the ship and shore for these hardworking seafarers. With your help, we can continue to provide essential services, such as complimentary van transportation to local amenities. This service is more than just transportation, it is a lifeline for those at sea.
SCW spends approximately $7,000 annually on gas to operate two vans, which comes out to about $65 per week for each van. Would you be willing to help by donating a week's worth of gas for one of our vans?
Join us in supporting those who keep our global economy moving. Your contribution can truly make a difference fro someone far from home. Together, let's make #DoMore24DE a success for SCW and the seafarers we serve! Donate today and help us continue our mission.
