Last year, SODELO’s talented friends and neighbors partnered with the DoMore24 campaign to supercharge an immensely successful season. Your support allowed this fledgling orchestra to amass several amazing accomplishments:

  • The orchestra more than doubled in size and conducted its first full season with the addition of woodwinds, brass, and percussion;
  • Through an expanded nine-concert season, the popularity and audience size got bigger. Modest venues grew to large performance spaces, including a spotlight appearance at the Freeman Arts Pavilion;
  • Community outreach expanded to include a music enrichment program with young people from the Children’s Beach House and the largest ever collection and distribution of musical instruments through its “Instruments in the Attic” program.
  • Throughout it all, the music also grew. SODELO musicians today include retired musical professionals – from major orchestras to Broadway musicals – who are sharing their love of performance with their fellow players;
  • And an internationally recognized conductor and talented soloists brought new classical music experiences to Southern Delaware.

Did we mention it was all thanks to your amazing musical neighbors and the support they received through your donation to DoMore24? But many of you already knew that.

The all-volunteer orchestra must still raise funds if it is to continue to serve the community.

Ticket sales pay only about half of the orchestra’s annual costs. Hall rental, music performance fees, transportation, and marketing costs all add to the expenses that must be met if the orchestra is to continue on its miraculous journey.

Your support through DoMore24 is particularly important to the orchestra because it compounds a single day of giving with matching donations and special awards. In addition, the outpouring of support from the community brought the orchestra’s local impact to the attention of charitable foundations and other grant-making organizations.

We live in an era where music and the arts have lost priority in school curriculums. World recognized orchestras have shrunk their ranks, diminished their seasons or, worst of all, closed their doors forever.

We are a community orchestra that seeks to make a difference in our own backyards, filled with our friends and neighbors as musicians,  performing for people who value live orchestral music.

Again in 2026, your support through DoMore24 stands to solidify our critical cultural promises.  Please join us in our pursuit of beautiful music.

Finally, here’s a sampling of our performance at the Freeman Arts Pavilion last summer. And be sure to check out our SODELO YouTube channel for music from our previous performances! Enjoy!
