I’m supporting ACLU-DE because they’ve created an impressive “Firewall for Freedom” agenda to push back against aggressive attacks on our democracy since Trump returned to office.
Let me give you an example of one of the most important issues addressed by the ACLU’s “Firewall for Freedom” plan and my strong feelings about this issue:
Voting Rights: I believe everyone deserves access to the ballot and to have their voice valued in our democracy. But do you know that our State of Delaware ranks with Mississippi and Alabama as having some of the most restrictive voting laws in the country? Yes - it’s true, and it must change.
This issue will require introducing legislation in our state and working closely with our state reps and senators to make sure new laws get passed that will get rid of these bigoted, Jim Crow-era statutes and regulations which have been on our books for 100 years! Some will require rewriting our Delaware Constitution, which is a big deal. We are not talking about something that will happen overnight, but if you help me and the other ACLU volunteers with a donation right now, we can start chipping away at a grassroots level and making real change happen, pretty soon, down the road!
