Sussex Post No. 8 The American Legion provides assistance for veterans and their family members who are facing financial crises. Veterans and family members can come to the Legion and receive support for housing costs (rental and mortgage payments) as well as utility costs, food, and clothing assistance through our Emergency Services Fund. Our staff often work with the widows of veterans who are having difficult times with their finances and who request support from the Legion. 

Rising food and housing costs are putting extra pressure on families of veterans to try to make ends meet. Many veterans and their families are on fixed incomes. There is growing concern that cuts in federal grants such as SNAP benefits, those that assist many veterans in purchasing food, will make it more difficult for many households to afford to purchase groceries, and cuts to Medicare and Medicaid will make it difficult to make co-pays on their insurance and pay other household costs.
