Historic Lewes offers history buffs many opportunities to “find their niche” in our Lewes volunteer family. I love that every one of our historical venues supports our mission to bring history alive for our visitors and invites our guests to come behind the traditional museum ropes to explore not just the “What” but also “Why” history happened here.  In the case of the Sussex Tavern where I’m a barkeep and docent, one can sit at a 18th century table and actually taste a colonial cocktail as they hear stories about the tavern master and his clients. For me personally it’s always a humbling experience when I put on my handmade period garb and escape back in time as I embrace a unique calling to share that feeling and love of history with others.
