The Independence School, founded in 1978, is an independent, co-educational day school located in Newark, Delaware, that educates students from age three through grade eight. The school’s mission is to inspire students to become independent, intellectually curious individuals who possess an exceptional spirit for learning, leadership and citizenship.

The school’s mission is to inspire students to become independent, intellectually curious individuals who possess an exceptional spirit for learning, leadership and citizenship.

Thanks to our exceptional faculty, staff, and board members, Independence has earned a stellar reputation not only in the First State, but also within the broader Mid-Atlantic region. We educate a diverse population of students from Delaware as well as Pennsylvania and Maryland, of which 37% are students of color.
