Support Breakthrough T1D's crucial mission to serve the Delaware T1D community and deliver vital resources to those living with type 1 diabetes.
Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) has been at the forefront of type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and advocacy for over five decades. Founded in May 1970 by parents determined to drive progress, Breakthrough T1D has grown to 29 U.S. chapters and five international affiliates, leading the fight against T1D worldwide. The Greater Delaware Valley Chapter actively serves the Delaware community, providing essential support and resources to those affected by T1D.
Over the past 54 years, Breakthrough T1D has played a role in nearly every major advancement in T1D care—supporting the development of innovative drugs, devices, and cell therapies. Through Research, Advocacy, and Community Engagement, we continue to improve lives by championing access to cutting-edge treatments while providing essential education and support for the T1D community. Our efforts have funded over $2.8 billion in research and impacted millions of people worldwide.
T1D affects 1.4 million Americans, with 64,000 new diagnoses each year. This autoimmune disease destroys insulin-producing cells, requiring lifelong insulin therapy. Despite its challenges, the cause of T1D remains unknown, and 85% of those diagnosed have no family history. Misdiagnosis—especially in adults—is common, leading to delays in proper care. Managing T1D is physically and financially demanding, with disparities in healthcare access disproportionately affecting underserved communities.
In Delaware, equitable access to health services is critical for effective T1D management. Your support will help fund vital community engagement initiatives, expanding outreach and educational programs to ensure that individuals—especially in underserved areas—have the resources they need. Donations will also support Breakthrough T1D’s Clinical Trials Education Program, providing valuable information about ongoing research and emerging treatments.
Together, we can drive progress and create lasting change in Delaware and beyond.
