Choir School of Delaware
Organization Mission:
The mission of The Choir School of Delaware, Inc. is to provide equitable access to life-changing opportunities for children aged 7-18 and their families. Our comprehensive program integrates professional-level choral training and performances with personalized homework assistance, mentoring, social/emotional learning (SEL), and leadership development.
Our local Wilmington school districts report a proficiency rate of 34% and 44% in Mathematics and English Language Arts. Yet, they also tout a 91% high school graduation rate. This math doesn't add up, but we have a solution. Choir School students maintain a 100% promotion and graduation rate, BUT THAT IS NOT ENOUGH. This year, we have adopted our own curriculum to augment our students' chances at succeeding in life. High School graduation is no longer enough, we need to prepare them for life in the real world.
The Choir School of Delaware students receive daily support from safe, committed adults who provide homework help, music mentorship, health resources, and life skills development. We want your help making our students' hopes and dreams a reality by giving them the tools they need today. Together, we can address the root causes of inequity and close the opportunity gap in Delaware through music and mentoring.
WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO?
This year's DoMore24 fundraiser is focused on supporting our summer program, a six week experience with full-day programming focused on music and meaningful life skills enrichment.
Did you know the "summer slide" is real? Research shows test scores either remain flat or drop throughout the summer. At the same time, simply being in school more does not solve the whole problem. We are here to give students real opportunities to better their positions in life. Here's what they will from your donation:
- Full-day programming Monday-Friday
- Business learning - focused on financial literacy and planning
- Academic prep- college readiness
- Musical Theater Production - an fully-stage show!!
- STEM projects
- Weekly field trip experiences like swimming, museums, basketball, and more!
BY THE NUMBERS
The Choir School of Delaware will support 50-75 students this summer with our programming. We will spend $50,000 (roughly $1k/student) to bring these opportunities to the students who deserve - not including any current staff wages or facility costs, strictly program expenses!
We have already secured more than 60% of the funds through local foundation grants, but we need your help. Today, you can be a part of the solution by helping us raise 10% of our summer program budget. Our goal today is simply $5,000!
WHAT IS THEIR SUCCESS WORTH TO YOU?
- a Starbucks coffee?
- a Netflix subscription?
- a late night Door Dash?
- maybe a dinner for two?
This is the BEST day of the year to give to the Choir School! Your gift's impact will double or more thanks to stretch pools courtesy of generous sponsors. Plus, gifts of ANY size - starting at just $5 - enter us to win prizes of bonus funding. Prize eligibility is based on the number of donations we receive, not the amount raised, so any amount helps us Do More!
Many of us have heard the West African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child.” But not all of us know the words that follow:
We all, everyone, must share the burden; we all, everyone will share the joy.
We thank you for sharing the burden. We know you will share in the joy!
