FLOAT THE BOAT

A fundraiser for The Lightship Overfalls

I’m David Shook.

I’m fundraising for The Lightship Overfalls.

I accepted the challenge of being the President of the Overfalls Foundation because I sincerely believe in our mission to preserve, teach and honor maritime history. Our 100% volunteer organization completely restored this 1938 US Coast Guard Lightship from ruin, to becoming a NATIONAL MONUMENT Landmark worthy of tours and public events. Last year, in a special edition, Time Magazine included the Overfalls as one of the TOP 100 LANDMARKS to visit in the USA. That puts us in pretty good company! We are asking for your help to
"Float our Boat" by including us in your generosity. Any funds we receive go directly into our constant maintenance of the ship by our volunteers, "the Dirty Hands Gang." If you have ever been to Lewes, Delaware you have seen our town's proud maritime heritage, which begins with this restored piece of history.

About The Lightship Overfalls

Mission: The Lightship Overfalls, more properly known as the LV-118, was the last lightship built under the U.S. Lighthouse Service. Thanks to thousands of hours put in by countless volunteers, the vessel is fully restored and is open to the public on the Lewes waterfront. Your contribution may be used to support these exciting activities happening at the Overfalls: • Lewes Maritime Day and Overfalls Opening Ceremony • Why Knot (a youth event) • Capture the Overfalls (a youth event) • Numerous events offering fun for the whole family • Generation of new exhibits to showcase in our New Museum Building • Float the Boat focused on the long-term ongoing maintenance of the ship Your support enables the Overfalls Foundation to further our mission to preserve, teach, and honor the history of United States lightships and their sailors as well as the maritime history of our community. Besides operating and maintaining the Lightship Overfalls (Delaware’s only maritime National Historic Landmark) and the Monomoy (a historic Coast Guard cutter and training lifeboat), the Overfalls Foundation is home to the Delaware Maritime Hall of Fame.
