Gerard's Fundraiser- Home Field, Home Stage

A fundraiser for: OperaDelaware

Organization Mission:

OperaDelaware produces bold, vibrant, and creative performances that empower artists, enrich the community, entertain audiences, and encourage curiosity.

I’m Gerard (Taeeun) Moon.

I’m fundraising for OperaDelaware.

My wife and I are both musicians. Early in our marriage, we could simply go wherever the work called us. After we became parents, that was no longer possible. She stayed home raising our children while continuing to teach her students at school and in her studio, and I continued traveling from contract to contract. We were still in the same profession but living very different lives.
Here in Delaware, through OperaDelaware’s Company Artist model, that finally changed. For the first time, our work does not pull us away from home. It grows out of it. Having a true artistic home changes the way you work. Much like athletes perform differently on their home field, we work with a deeper sense of ease and confidence when we know we belong to the place where we are performing. As Company Artists, we help imagine, build, and carry productions to the stage ourselves. Because of that, we feel responsible not only for what happens inside the company, but also for how opera lives in the community.
In opera, we often tell stories like Pagliacci, where a performer entertains while hiding real life behind a costume. Here, the opposite happens. Music is transparent and intimate. It reveals who we truly are. Programs like this allow artists to stay rooted in the communities they serve instead of passing through them. The relationships built here last beyond a single production. That continuity is what keeps opera present and meaningful in people’s lives.
I took my name “Gerard” because singing Gérard in Andrea Chénier has always been a dream of mine. To bring that dream role to life here in Delaware, on the same stage where our children sit in the audience, is something only possible because this company believes in rooted artists. For us, OperaDelaware is no longer a company we visit. It is a place where we live as artists, as parents, and as members of a community. It simply feels like home.

Your support makes this home ground possible for Company Artists who belong to Delaware and who build opera here, not just pass through it. Thank you!
About OperaDelaware

Do More 24 2026!!

OperaDelaware is thrilled to invite you to join us in revolutionizing the way artists are supported in the performing arts industry. On March 5-6, during Do More 24 Delaware 2026, we’re asking for your support to help fund the Company Artist Model—a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at transforming the “starving artist” stereotype into one of empowerment, stability, and creative fulfillment.

This innovative program is designed to make Delaware a cultural hub, offering artists full-time employment with salary, benefits, and meaningful roles beyond the stage. By recognizing and leveraging the unique skill sets of artists—including creativity, passion, and adaptability—we are redefining what it means to work in the arts while fortifying our company’s operational strength.

Our Company Artist Model has received impressive recognition both regionally and nationally. OperaDelaware was one of three finalists in the Pete du Pont Freedom Foundation’s 2024 Reinventing Delaware competition with the Company Artist Model. This achievement highlights the urgency of addressing the employment struggles of professional artists, with over 95% of them working outside their discipline due to the unstable nature of the freelance economy. Together, we can lead the way toward a brighter, more sustainable future for artists in the United States.

Your donation during Do More 24 Delaware will help OperaDelaware take the next step in ensuring this visionary program has a long-term impact on the First State—one that not only empowers our artists but also strengthens our entire community. Every gift brings us closer to becoming a national model for the arts sector, showcasing Delaware as a beacon of creativity and innovation.

Join us today in transforming the future of opera and the arts. Your generosity can make history.
Donate March 5-6 beginning at 6PM, and help us build a stronger, more vibrant artistic community in Delaware. Together, we’ll DO MORE for the arts!
