Sonshine Equine's mission is simple but powerful: to encourage and empower neurodivergent youth and female adolescents through their engagement with horses.
Sonshine Equine has a herd of equine including horses, ponies, miniature horses and donkeys that facilitate growth and healing. There are no paid positions at Sonshine because the center is 100% volunteer driven. Any donations to the center are used for scholarships for participants, the care of our horses, upkeep of the facility and creating opportunities for future center growth.
Each year at Sonshine we provide more than 600 sessions of equine educational and riding experiences to our participants. Our participants are between 6 - 17 years old.
The female adolescent equine programs rely on a structured, relationship-building nature to transform the participants by helping them gain confidence, emotional regulation, and a sense of belonging and wellbeing.
In addition to our weekly core session schedule, we host summer camps serving more than 50 youth. The summer camps provide hands-on learning opportunities including, equine horsemanship and care, social skills development, and community field trips.
Sonshine Equine is looking to improve our facility with the development of an indoor classroom, "The Corral". This building will enable us to reach and position Sonshine for future opportunities to serve the community. We are honored to partner with Do More 24 in the 2026 year!
