A Message from Sarah E. Williams, Head of School

Dear WMS Community,
As I reflect on Wilmington Montessori School’s 62-year journey, I am filled with gratitude for all we have accomplished and optimism for what lies ahead. Over the past decade, our community has experienced meaningful growth, from integrating innovative educational practices to strengthening our role as a leader in Montessori education. The WMS spirit—rooted in collaboration, curiosity and a deep commitment to children—continues to guide us.

We have embraced change with purpose. From expanding STEAM education and implementing a one-to-one technology program to deepening our understanding of the science of learning, WMS has evolved to meet the needs of today’s students. This progress builds on a strong foundation, including the leadership of my predecessor, Lisa Lalama, whose 12 years as Head of School helped shape this next chapter.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to advancing Montessori education with a focus on accessibility, diversity and innovation. Grounded in our mission, we nurture independence, creativity and global responsibility in every child. Together, we will continue to grow as a vibrant community where each student is empowered to reach their full potential.
