Help SNAC Garden Foundation Bring Equal Access to Outdoor Learning to Sussex County Public Schools & Start a Summer Youth Community Garden Program!

Organization Mission:

SNAC Garden Foundation cultivates health, learning, and nourishment by creating equitable access to nature and food. Through hands-on gardening, science-based education, and sustainable practices, we inspire wellness, nurture curiosity, and strengthen community. SNAC Garden Foundation is the hub where community, nature, and learning come together. As the leading resource in Delaware for garden engagement, we build strong partnerships to create accessible gardens and educational programs that grow healthy families, sustainable communities, and a resilient environment.

Why Your Support Matters!

At SNAC (School Nutrition Agri-Culture) Garden Foundation, we believe every child deserves the chance to explore, learn, and connect with nature—regardless of their background or ability. To help ensure that all of our local youth are given an equal foundation from which to thrive throughout life, we design lessons to meet the specific needs of students at the schools we serve. These include young people from marginalized communities, such as ESL students and those with diverse learning and accessibility needs.

We provide hands-on garden education to youth, because cultivating meaningful relationships with food and nature at a young age supports a lifetime of health and wellbeing. Kids who grow their own food are more likely to eat fruits and vegetables later in life.

Our school-based weekly garden lessons serve over 2,500 students at Howard T. Ennis, Longneck Elementary, North Georgetown Elementary, and Georgetown Middle School. Last year, you helped us start a new school program!

THIS YEAR, we need your help to maintain and grow our current programs and launch a brand-new community gardening program in partnership with Weathered Eye Farm in Lewes! This space will allow us to expand our programming beyond the school year and support youth all Summer long in partnership with local Summer camps and youth programs.

How you can support!

For just $20, you can sponsor an entire classroom for an hour-long SNAC Garden lesson. This is like an outdoor field trip where kids don’t have to leave school! Students learn more than just about how to tend a garden; they learn science, sustainability, history, health, and community-building in ways that stick with them for life and far beyond the classroom.

🌱 Donate today to transform schoolyards into thriving outdoor classrooms! 🌱

 Our Goal: $5,000

With your help, we can continue providing expert garden educators, hands-on learning opportunities, guarantee 10 outdoor lessons per year for each student—and expand our reach to even more kids throughout the Summer in partnership with local youth-serving organizations.

Why we need your support now more than ever!

Youth in the schools we serve are disproportionately economically disadvantaged. Sussex County’s rural communities have fewer resources for such students, and many who we serve are increasingly vulnerable to losing necessary services, equitable access to education, and the resources they need to grow and thrive. Among other things, students get to take the produce they grow each week home to their families free of cost.

Our public school teachers and administrators are already stretched thin and lack the capacity to take on more work or add new types of curricula to their plates. As such, we provide a supplemental curriculum that centers multi-disciplinary and experiential education. Our educators are trained in practices proven to promote personal and social-awareness, stress management, and responsible decision-making skills, and they handle all garden-related maintenance and education. This allows teachers to focus on caring for their students’ educational and emotional needs in ways that only they can.

💚 Help us reach our $5,000 goal to grow healthier, happier, and more connected communities in Sussex County!

About SNAC Garden Foundation

The SNAC (School Nutrition Agri-Culture) Garden Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming schoolyards into vibrant outdoor classrooms where students of all backgrounds can engage in hands-on environmental STEM education, health education, and ecological stewardship.

Through weekly garden-based lessons, we provide over 2,500 students at Longneck Elementary, North Georgetown Elementary,  Georgetown Middle School, and Howard T. Ennis with meaningful opportunities to connect with nature, grow their own food, and develop lifelong healthy habits. Our trained garden educators lead lessons on topics such as soil health, plant life cycles, sustainable agriculture, and nutrition—ensuring every child has access to outdoor learning experiences.

By integrating gardening with science, history, and mindfulness, we empower students to become environmental stewards and cultivate a deeper connection to their communities.
